WAUWATOSA — It’s “Walk to School Day”across the county and students in Southeast Wisconsin joined in on the event.

The Wauwatosa West High School marching band helped celebrate the annual walking event outside McKinley Elementary School.

The idea is to promote health and wellness and get students to think about safety when walking to and from class.

“We have a neighborhood school, but we have found that less than 50%of the kids actually walk to school each day and most live less than a mile and there are so many benefits to walking to school,” said event organizer Sarah Lerand.

Some 200 students took part, walking to McKinley Elementary, and McGruff the Crime Dog and the Hotdog Racing Sausage joined the students for it all.
